Job Posting: STEM Outreach Survey Assistant (Graduate Student)

Job Description

The overarching goal of the Collective is to enhance the students’ community-engaged learning environment, and to maximize engagement with the UBC community and general public with respect to STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – outreach and general science literacy.

This graduate student will work with the UBC STEM Outreach Collective (https://stemoutreach.ubc.ca/) to conduct a survey of UBC STEM Outreach at both UBC-V and UBC-O. This will include collecting information from STEM outreach groups and organizations across campus (web research, surveys, direct contact, and other data sources), compiling this information into a resource inventory (resources, programs, events, etc), creating a needs assessment/resource overlap report for the STEM Collective, and making recommendations for maintenance/upkeep of this survey data. This resource repository should be categorized in multiple ways, allowing easy internal and public access. Public content will be delivered to the Website Assistant for posting.

Additional duties include attending once monthly meetings with the UBC STEM Outreach Collective and presenting the status of this project.

Max 70 hours, $35.00/hour, March-May (June if necessary) 2021. Remote position, grant-funded

Qualifications

Describe the skills, experience, education level, degrees, etc. that the position requires.

  • Experience conducting surveys and compiling information
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently
  • Skills in project planning and management.
  • Current graduate student at UBC 
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security, ability to decide level of detail to post publicly 
  • Experience in STEM outreach, UBC or elsewhere, is an asset 
  • Experience with WordPress websites is an asset
